Dyo Potamia
An area overgrown with plane trees and oaks
The meeting point of two tributaries of Axios river, and their union into one. The two rivers that join, the local inhabitants of the wider area, named them with names in the local dialect. The first river that comes from Karpi is called “Cherna Reka” i.e. “Black river – Mavropotamos” because of the black rocks that are there. The other river is called “Gulema Reka” which means “Great River”.
In the first river there is a platform where you can walk along the bank, while in the second, which you will meet a little further down (after the bridge – walking path) you will find a small waterfall and the specially designed area for swimming with the small dam.
The area has been landscaped by the Forestry Department of Goumenissa. The paths in Dyo Potamia are in excellent condition, shaped by the Forest Service and passable by our little friends. The recreational projects that have been designed are perfectly in harmony with the environment. They offer the visitor the opportunity to walk on wooden bridges made of tree trunks to get to know the local flora and fauna. The waters of the small waterfall end up in a stone-built natural pool, also the work of the Forestry Department of Goumenissa.
Dyo Potamia are only 2 km away from the town of Goumenissa. Just 1 hour from Thessaloniki, which makes it an ideal escape for the people of Thessaloniki. You can choose either the route through Polykastro and Axioupoli or through Nea Chalkidona and Pella.
