Old Tuition
The first Greek school during the Turkish occupation
The Old Tuition in Goumenissa housed the first Greek school during the Turkish occupation. The magnificent building was erected in the period 1882-1894, at the expense of the residents and a donation from the local benefactor Thanos Zelegkos, but also with the help of the Metropolitan of Edessa Timotheus.
It functioned as a school even after liberation, until 1970 and then hosted services and clubs. The historic Didaktori was the spiritual center of the region, especially during the Ottoman period. It is located in the center of the city and after its restoration it adorns Goumenissa, both with the imposingness of the construction and the memory it retains from the 19th century.
